I Swear I Thought She Was 18!

Today’s miscarriage of justice is brought to you by Orange County, Florida as reported by WFTV.

It seems that 22 year-old Morris Williams has been sentenced to one year in jail and 5 years probation for having sex with a 13 year-old girl.

Now I certainly don’t think guys in their 20’s should be having sex with 13 year-old girls, but you know what? Some girls lie about their age!

I know, it’s hard to believe, and I’m sure there hasn’t been a guy caught yet with an underage girl who didn’t say “She told me she was 18!” But we live in an online society now and it seems like almost everybody has a MySpace page these days.

The girl in question, Alisha Dean, was identified by WFTV since she has pictures of herself posted on her public MySpace page. The photo of Ms. Dean shows a very well developed young lady who certainly doesn’t look 13. As a matter of fact, on her MySpace page she claims to be a 19 year-old divorced woman.

Mr. Williams says Ms. Dean “picked him up” on the street and after a few conversations they had sex. When he found out that she was not 18 he went to the girls father and explained what had happened.

“‘He was like ‘well, she’s 13,’ Williams said of a conversation with Dean’s father.”

Dean’s father had Williams arrested and at trial the Judge decided that ignorance of the girl’s age was no excuse.

Now one would think that the girls family would come down hard on her after being involved in something like this, but of course one would be wrong. “Dean’s family admits Alisha still stays out late and has yet to delete her misleading MySpace page.”

Oh and just so you don’t start to feel too sorry for Ms. Dean, this is not the first time this has happened. 24 year-old Darwin Mills is serving his 5 year sentence after being convicted of having sex with Ms. Dean.

After Williams was sentenced his step father, Henry Smith said “ I guess we just sit back and count how many after this.”

It’s to the point now that you don’t dare sleep with someone without proof of a recent blood test for disease, but now apparently you need to see a birth certificate and two forms of ID too!

Shouldn’t both these guys be let out of jail and the girl locked up? Is there a way, other than abstinence, that a young man can avoid this situation? Is it fair to always base these cases on the actual age of the girl rather than her apparent age? If there is proof, such as the MySpace page in this case, that the girl is lying about her age shouldn’t she be punished? Shouldn’t the parents be punished if they aren’t doing anything to correct the girl’s behavior?
